What the game is

A music-career game. Your teen guides a cartoon artist through writing, recording, and releasing songs, then competes on weekly charts against other real players. Every character comes from our own cartoon roster. The game cannot draw real people, and it cannot draw your teen.

What other players can put in front of your teen

Other players choose an artist name, song titles, an album name, and a label name. They also type short prompts that AI turns into lyrics, a 30-second song clip, and cover art. That is the whole list. There is no photo upload, no free-form posting, and no way to send a message to another player. The community feed shows what artists did, such as releasing a song or reaching number one, with likes and reposts but no typed replies.

Your teen hears other players' songs on the in-game radio and on the charts, the same way they would hear strangers' songs on a streaming service.

How we screen it

Every piece of text a player types is checked before it is accepted. A blocklist catches slurs, including leetspeak and spaced-out spellings. An AI vocabulary check catches new or misspelled ones. Anything that touches an identity, extremist, or hate term goes to server-side AI moderation for hate, harassment, and sexual content before it can be used. A separate screen strips emails, phone numbers, addresses, and links from anything that gets published, so a song page can never carry a way to contact your teen.

Lyrics come from the generated clip. There is no lyrics editor. Song lyrics can still use the vocabulary of pop music, which is why the App Store rating lists infrequent profanity and mature themes. Screening is not perfect. When something gets through, the fastest fix is a report.

Report and block

Press and hold any artist name, song title, artwork, song clip, or label in the game and choose Report. The same menu offers Block this artist. Blocking is immediate: that artist's songs leave the charts and the radio, and their posts leave the feed, on your teen's account. Settings, then Blocked Artists, lists them and can unblock.

We review every report within 24 hours. We can rename text, remove an image or clip, take a web page down, and suspend the account behind it. Repeat offenders are removed for good.

Links that leave the game

Two places link out. Settings has a link to our community Discord server, and a label's page can carry a Discord or LINE invite posted by the label's owner. Those are the only outside links the game accepts, and both open in the browser. What happens on Discord or LINE is governed by their rules, not ours. Discord's own minimum age is 13.

To keep your teen inside the game, block those sites on the device: Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions, then Web Content.

Money

Chart Topper is free to download and play. The only things for sale are gem packs, from $0.99 to $99.99, and a one-time Remove Ads purchase at $14.99. All of it goes through Apple's in-app purchase system, so Ask to Buy and Screen Time's purchase limits apply, and refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Every gem spend shows exactly what it buys before the gems leave. There are no loot boxes, mystery boxes, or paid random draws. Gems never buy chart position: every song is scored on the same rules for everyone, and our Terms treat any attempt to buy an advantage as cheating.

Ads

Free accounts see a short full-screen ad between turns, served by Google AdMob. Ads are capped at Google's Teen content rating with no personalization or remarketing, for every player. There are no ads that must be watched to earn anything. The Remove Ads purchase ends them permanently.

Privacy

Sign in with Apple is the only sign-in, and Hide My Email works. We never show a real name, an email address, or an Apple ID anywhere in the game or on this site. Other players see the artist name and the cartoon, nothing else. Publishing a song to a web page is opt-in, one song at a time, and can be undone with one tap.

The prompts your teen types go to Google's Gemini and Lyria models, with OpenAI and Anthropic as fallbacks, and the game says so on the screen where they type. The prompts are a few words about a song, and the contact screen above keeps personal details out of them. Deleting the account, in Settings, removes everything, including any web pages. The full Privacy Policy has the rest.

Time

The game runs on turns and a weekly payday, so a session is a few minutes and nothing is lost by closing the app. If a player skips a week, the game rests their artist for them. Apple's Screen Time sets a daily limit per app. Apple's Time Allowances file Chart Topper under Social Media because of its community feed, so a Social Media allowance covers it.

Under 13

Chart Topper is not for children under 13 and we do not ask for a birthday at sign-up. The App Store's 13+ rating and your device's age restrictions are the gate. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete the account and its data.
